Creating a Calm & Engaging Early Years Learning Environment
Maltby Academy Nursery approached OSI to help create a calm, engaging and flexible Early Years learning environment designed to support creativity, exploration and child-led learning.
Working closely with the nursery team, the space was carefully designed to incorporate defined learning zones including reading corners, role play areas, creative spaces and practical storage solutions — all while maintaining a warm, natural and welcoming classroom feel.
Using a combination of modern Early Years furniture, natural wood finishes and thoughtfully planned layouts, the completed nursery environment encourages collaboration, independence and imaginative play throughout the setting.
The project included a wide range of nursery furniture and classroom resources, helping transform the space into a functional and inspiring Early Years learning environment for both pupils and staff.

At Maltby Academy Nursery, every area within the classroom was carefully planned to support creativity, independence and child-led exploration throughout the day.
Defined learning zones were introduced to create a natural flow between activities, helping pupils move comfortably between reading areas, role play spaces, creative learning stations and collaborative classroom environments.
Natural wood finishes, calming layouts and flexible Early Years furniture were also selected to create a warm and welcoming environment that supports both pupils and staff while encouraging imaginative play and independent learning.
